ER-5 rebuild - Moving on

Other bits

After finishing the tank I was quite pleased with myself, I then had to set about all the other stuff. This was a bit haphazard as I had to work around the weather and when certain parts I ordered arrived. To chop chop, it ain’t gonna fix itself.

One of the first things I removed was the triple tree to check out the head bearings. They felt a bit lumpy, here’s why -

I had already ordered some head bearings so it wasn’t too much of a drama. After that I decided to strip the entire frame. The weather was bad but it didn’t matter. The video can be found here –

The time came to remove the engine. I was talking to someone on a forum and they asked could you wet blast an engine complete? I wasn’t a fan of the idea but I thought I’d give it a go and if all failed I could strip the engine any way.

It wasn’t a great success and I was worried that the engine was ingesting water so I decided to stop and strip the engine. Before I started down that long path I started on the frame. I had read that a lot of people were having problems with paint strippers, and specifically Nitromors. I bought some from the local hardware place and tested a bit on the frame.
